誰かについて嘘や悪い話を広めて評判を傷つけること。害を与える意図を持つ場合もある。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

フォーマルまたは文学的な表現で、日常会話ではあまり使われません。「malign someone」は「中傷する」、「malign intentions」は「悪意のある意図」という意味です。“malignant”（医学用語）と混同しないようにしてください。
