〜ふりをする〜ように見せかける

Definition

本当は違うのに、何かが真実であるかのように装ったり他人に信じ込ませようとすること。

この表現はカジュアルで、わざと話を盛ったり、事実と違うことを言う時によく使います。「pretend」や「claim」と近いですが、正直でないニュアンスが含まれます。

He tried to make out that he didn't know anything.

彼は自分が何も知らない**ふりをしよう**とした。

She made out that she was busy all day.
