Tornado mais leve, seja reduzindo o peso, tornando algo mais claro ou fazendo a situação parecer menos séria.

Pode ser usado literal ('lightened the box' = deixou a caixa mais leve) ou figurado ('lightened the mood' = deixou o clima mais leve). Também se refere a tornar uma cor mais clara ('lightened her hair'). Comum no particípio passado.
