お酒などの飲み物を神や祖先にささげて注ぐ宗教的な行為や儀式です。

日常会話ではほとんど使われず、神事や歴史的シーンの表現で用いられます。ユーモアでお酒をこう呼ぶこともありますが、正式な儀式絡みが一般的です。『offer a libation』は「献酒する」に該当します。
