Permitir que alguém evite uma punição ou consequência, normalmente depois de ter feito algo errado.

Principalmente informal. Usado quando autoridades não punem erros leves ('let him off with a warning'). Muito utilizado em 'let someone off the hook'. Não significa perdoar profundamente.
