誰かが悪いことをしたり基準を満たしていなくても、罰や厳しい結果を受けずに済ませることを許すこと。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

カジュアルで親しみやすい表現。親や上司などの権威ある立場が使うことが多い。「let him get by with cheating」のように後ろに内容が続く。完全に許すというより‘見逃す’ニュアンス。
