「lain」は「横たわる」の過去分詞形で、何かや誰かが横になっていた、休んでいた状態を表します。完了時制で使われます。

「lain」は物理的に横たわる意味だけで使われ、「嘘をつく」とは別です。「has/have/had lain」の形で出現することが多いですが、「laid」と混同しないように注意してください。
