중요하지 않은 일을 하며 시간을 보내는 것, 기다릴 때 흔히 쓴다.

실제로 '죽인다'는 의미가 아니라, 시간을 보내거나 기다리는 상황에 사용된다. '시간을 때우다'는 자연스러운 표현.
