Fikrini söyleme fırsatı verildiğinde sessiz kalmak ya da konuşmamak. Genellikle düğün veya tören gibi resmi ortamlarda kullanılır.

Daha çok resmi ve geleneksel ortamlarda geçer, örneğin düğünlerde. Günlük hayatta pek kullanılmaz. 'speak now or forever hold your peace' kalıbıyla yaygındır.
