어려운 상황에서도 굴하지 않고 버티거나, 손 등을 내미는 것을 뜻합니다. 무언가를 포기하지 않음을 나타낼 때도 씁니다.

'hold out your hand'처럼 실제 동작이나 'hold out against', 'hold out hope'처럼 비유적으로도 사용됩니다. 포기하지 않는 버팀의 의미가 강합니다. 'hold up'과 혼동하지 마세요.

Please hold out your hand so I can give you the gift.
