Definition

困難な状況でもあきらめずに耐えること、または手などを差し出すことを表します。譲らない、負けない態度にも使われます。

「hold out your hand」のような実際の動作や、「hold out against」「hold out hope」のような比喩的表現で使われます。粘り強さやあきらめない姿勢を表します。“hold up”とは違う意味です。

Please hold out your hand so I can give you the gift.
