'hold out against temptation' মানে লোভের কাছে না ঝোঁকা। সাধারণত মানসিক বা মান্যতা-সংক্রান্ত প্রতিরোধ বোঝাতে ব্যবহার হয়। 'resist' এর চেয়ে কিছুটা আনুষ্ঠানিক শোনায়।
