"hit the brakes" in Korean
Definition
차, 오토바이 등의 속도를 줄이거나 멈추기 위해 브레이크를 밟는 것. 어떤 행동이나 진행을 갑자기 멈추는 데도 쓰인다.
Usage Notes (Korean)
비격식적으로 자주 쓰이며 자동차나 오토바이에 쓰이나, 때론 일이나 계획 진행을 멈출 때도 사용된다. 'suddenly hit the brakes'는 갑자기 멈추는 뜻. 'step on the gas'는 가속하다란 의미로 반대됨.
