Presionar el pedal del freno en un vehículo para reducir la velocidad o detenerse. También se puede usar en sentido figurado para detener o frenar una acción o progreso.

Expresión informal, más usada cuando se habla de conducir autos, camiones o bicicletas. También se emplea en sentido figurado para frenar acciones. Se escucha mucho: 'de repente hit the brakes'. No confundir con 'step on the gas' (acelerar).
