Definition

গাড়ি, বাইক বা অন্য যানবাহন থামাতে বা গতি কমাতে ব্রেক চাপা হয়। এটি কোনো কাজ বা অগ্রগতি আচমকা থামানো বোঝাতেও ব্যবহৃত হয়।

Usage Notes (Bengali)

অনানুষ্ঠানিকভাবে ব্যবহৃত হয়। সাধারণত যানবাহন চালানোর বিষয়ে বলা হয়, তবে কাজ বা অগ্রগতি থামাতে রূপক অর্থেও ব্যবহার করা যায়। 'suddenly hit the brakes' মানে হঠাৎ থামানো। 'step on the gas' বিপরীত অর্থ দেয়।
