논쟁이나 협상에서 한발 물러서서 상대방의 주장이나 요구를 받아들이는 것.

주로 공식적 또는 비즈니스 상황에서 사용되며 실제 이동이 아닌 의견이나 요구에 대한 양보를 의미함. ‘억지로’(reluctantly) 등과 같이 쓰임.
