誰かや何かに立ち向かうこと。特に、困難や競争の状況で使います。

カジュアルな会話で使われ、競争や挑戦の相手に立ち向かう時に使う表現です。「get up against another team」のように使われます。物理的な接触ではなく、対立や困難に直面するニュアンスが強いです。
