空気や水中で特定の場所にとどまらずに漂うこと、または噂やアイディアなどが多くの人の間で出所不明のまま広まること。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

主にカジュアルな場面で使われる。物や人が水や空気中に漂う時や、噂・情報などが出所不明のまま人々の間に広まる時に使う。'rumors floating around' などによく見られる。多少くだけた印象。
