見積もる

Definition

利用できる情報からおおよその値や量、大きさを推測したり計算すること。正確な数字がわからない場合に、できるだけ近い数字を予想する意味です。

数字や費用、時間などについて『estimate the cost』『estimating time』といった表現でよく使う。正確さの程度は文脈によるので注意。

She is estimating how much money she will need for her trip.

彼女は旅行にいくら必要かを**見積もっています**。

We are estimating the time it will take to finish this project.
