Definition

これは、絶対に起こらないと自信をもっている時に使う表現で、もし間違っていたらあり得ないこと（帽子を食べるなど）をすると言う意味です。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

くだけた場面や冗談で使い、真剣な約束や賭けには使いません。よく「If X happens, I'll eat my hat」の形で使われ、帽子以外のものに例える場合もあります。
