とても困難で深刻な状況、特にお金や生活に必要なものが不足しているときに使います。

「窮地」「苦境」はやや書き言葉やフォーマルな表現で、日常会話では「困っている」などが使われます。深刻な問題にのみ使い、小さなことには使いません。
