Definition

누군가를, 특히 경찰이나 당국이 떠나지 못하게 하는 것. 주로 조사나 법적인 이유로 이뤄진다.

법적, 공식 상황에서 주로 사용됨. ‘arresting’(체포하다)와 달리, 반드시 기소되는 것은 아님.

The police are detaining two suspects for questioning.

경찰이 두 명의 용의자를 심문을 위해 **구금하고 있다**.

They are detaining travelers at the border.

그들은 국경에서 여행자들을 **붙잡고 있다**.

The officers are detaining him for further checks.

경찰관들이 추가 확인을 위해 그를 **구금하고 있다**.
