Definition

用于表示某事发生了或属实，尽管存在某种困难、阻碍，或按理说结果应当相反。后面通常接名词、代词或动词的 -ing 形式，不能单独直接接完整从句。

Usage Notes (Chinese (Simplified))

这个词在口语和书面语中都很常见。'despite' 和 'in spite of' 意思几乎一样，但不能说 'despite of'。在 'despite' 后面要说 'despite the rain' 或 'despite being tired'，不能说 'despite it was raining'。
