Bu kelime çoğunlukla birini çok korkutmak veya dövmek anlamında deyimlerde geçer. Çok nadiren eski Türkçede 'göz' veya 'gündüz ışığı' anlamına da gelir.

'scare the daylights out of' birini çok korkutmak, 'beat the daylights out of' çok dövmek anlamındadır. Tek başına kullanılmaz.
