Definition

イベントの開始前などに、数字をゼロまで逆順に数えること。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

動詞と名詞で使う。発射や年越しなどイベント時によく用いる。「count down to〜」で「〜までカウントダウンする」という意味。数字を０まで逆に数えることにのみ使う。
