何かが本当だと主張すること、特に議論や討論で使われます。また、何かを巡って争ったり、困難と戦う意味もあります。

「主張する」はよりフォーマルな場や文章で使われます。「contend with」は困難なものと戦う意味になります。「content（満足）」と混同しないように注意。

She contends that she was not at the scene of the crime.
