Definition

自分が他人より偉いか賢いと考え、見下した態度で接すること。時には、自分にふさわしくないことをいやいや行う意味もある。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

主にフォーマルまたは批判的な文脈で使われる。「don't condescend to me」は「見下した態度をとらないで」と訳せる。日常会話ではあまり使わない。 'condone'（黙認する）と区別しよう。
