वैज्ञानिक रूप में रसायनों के लिए और आम बोलचाल में बहुत कटु टिप्पणी के लिए ('caustic comment')। रसायन विज्ञान में औपचारिक, भाषा में सामान्य या अर्ध-औपचारिक। 'sarcastic' और 'caustic' अलग हैं; 'caustic' ज्यादा तीखा है।
