ギャンブルのチップを現金に換えること、または比喩的に物事を諦めたり、辞めたり、少しユーモラスに死ぬこと。

もともとギャンブル用語ですが、比喩的に仕事を辞める、「もうやめよう」とする場面や、ややユーモラスに「亡くなる」の意味で使われます。フォーマルな表現ではありません。
