建物などが火事で完全に焼け落ちること。誰かが火をつけて焼き払う場合や、自然に燃える場合にも使う。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

主に建物や大きな構造物に使い、小物には使わない。「They burned down the house」は人が火をつけた場合、「The house burned down」は自然発火の場合に使う。日常会話的な表現。
