競争や選挙などで相手を上回って勝つこと。または他者より優れること。
Usage Notes (Japanese)
カジュアルな場面で使用、接戦や僅差の勝利に使われます。「beat someone for a job」ならば“〜の職を勝ち取る”など。単なる“beat”よりも接戦のニュアンスが強いです。
