Esta expresión informal introduce el punto principal, la razón o el problema en una conversación, generalmente para destacar lo que realmente importa o complica la situación.

Muy informal, usada en conversación para aclarar o enfatizar el problema real. Se suele decir al inicio: 'the thing of it is...'. Equivale a 'el punto es' o 'la cosa es que', pero es más coloquial.
