Definition

犬などが痛みや驚きで短く鋭く鳴き声をあげること。人にも使われ、突然痛みや驚きで叫ぶときに使われる。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

犬や小動物が主な対象。人が急に痛みや驚きで叫ぶときにも使う。'barking'よりも緊急性や痛みが強く、深く長い声には使わない。
