基準とは、何かの大きさや質、成功などを比較・判断するための物差しや基準となるものです。

「yardstick」は主に比喩的に基準や評価の物差しとして使われます。実際の物差しとしてはほとんど使われません。『基準』『指標』と似た意味です。
