物理的に何かをよりきつくする、または規則や手順などを厳しく・確実にすること。

話し言葉でよく使われ、物を締め直す場合や基準・規則などを厳しくする場合の両方で使う。『tighten』のみは物理的な意味に限定されるので注意。
