Definition

都市部に見られる、古くて狭い部屋が多い集合住宅で、多くの家族が詰め込まれて住んでいた建物。生活環境が悪いことが多いです。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

「長屋」や「安アパート」は主に昔の都市の貧困層向けの住宅を指します。現代の普通のマンションやアパートには使いません。「tenement building」などの表現は「古い集合住宅」などで表せます。
