道路や空港の滑走路などに使われる、黒くて硬い舗装材。また、空港の滑走路や駐機場の路面自体を指すこともある。

「on the tarmac」は空港で飛行機の外にいる状態を指す表現です。アメリカ英語よりイギリス英語でよく使われます。日本語では「アスファルト」や「滑走路」と表現されることが多いです。
