周囲の許可や作法を守らず、勝手な行動をとること。相手との距離を考えずに馴れ馴れしくする場合などに使う。

やや堅めの表現で、人や物事に対して『take liberties with 〜』の形で使うことが多い。批判や注意を示す意味合いが強いが、時には冗談めかして使うこともある。
