Definition

'Stick up' تعني أن يبرز أو يرتفع إلى الأعلى. بالعامية، يمكن أن تعني أيضاً السطو على شخص أو مكان باستخدام تهديد أو سلاح.

Usage Notes (Arabic)

هذه تعبير غير رسمي. يمكن أن يكون حرفيًا ('My hair sticks up': شعري يبرز للأعلى) أو يُستخدم بمعنى السطو المسلح ('They tried to stick up the bank': حاولوا سطو البنك). في الجريمة تظهر كاسم 'stickup'. لا تخلط بينها وبين 'stand up for' (يدافع عن شخص).
