"step on the gas" in Japanese

アクセルを踏む急ぐ

Definition

車のスピードを上げるためにアクセルを踏むこと。また、何かを早く進めるよう急かす意味でも使われる。

運転時だけでなく、比喩的に急がせたい時にも使う。「step on it」と同じ意。フォーマルな場面ではあまり使われない。

Dad told me to step on the gas because we were running late.

遅れそうだから父が私に**アクセルを踏め**と言った。

When you see the green light, step on the gas.
