二つ以上のものの間に位置すること。物理的にも比喩的にも使われ、しばしば障害や妨げになる意味で使われます。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

人や物の間に立つ場合にも、人間関係や感情面での障害にも使われます。「stand up for（味方する）」や「stand out（目立つ）」とは異なります。
