場所や人物、物事について秘密裏に情報を探ること。普通は優位に立つか、隠されたことを発見するために使う表現です。
Usage Notes (Japanese)
"Spy out"は主にフォーマルや文学的な場面で使われる表現で、特に土地や機会について密かに調べるときに用いられます。日常会話ではあまり使いません。「spy out the land」などの表現で見かけます。
