十分な事実がないまま、何かについて推測や予想をすること。特に将来の出来事や結果について使われる。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

主にビジネスやニュースなどで用いられ、「speculate on the future」や「speculate on motives」など、確証がない状況で使われる。確実な事実には使わない。

Many people speculate on why the company failed.
