কাউকে অন্যদের চেয়ে আলাদাভাবে, সাধারণত ভালো বা বেশি যত্নসহকারে দেখা হয়। এটি কখনো কখনো বড় সুবিধা বা অন্যায্য সুবিধাকেও বোঝাতে পারে।

উল্লেখযোগ্যভাবে ন্যায্যতা বিষয়ক সমালোচনায় ব্যবহৃত হয়; 'special treatment' প্রায়শই 'পাওয়া/দেওয়া' এর সাথে আসে; কখনো ইতিবাচক, কখনো নেতিবাচক অনুভূতি দিতে পারে।
