熱い液体や蒸気で何かや誰かをやけどさせること。または、牛乳や水を沸騰直前まで加熱することも指します。

主に熱い液体や蒸気によるやけどに使います。料理用語としては、牛乳や水を沸騰直前まで温める意味もあります。「scalding hot」は非常に熱いという意味。
