'Ruts' são sulcos longos e estreitos formados repetidamente por rodas ou pés, ou também podem indicar rotinas aborrecidas das quais as pessoas sentem que não conseguem sair.

'Ruts' pode ser usado literal (sulcos no solo) ou metafórico (rotinas entediantes). Expressões: 'get stuck in a rut' (ficar preso numa rotina), 'ruts in the road'. O sentido metafórico é informal.
