यह मुहावरा भावनाओं (खासकर डर या हैरानी) से जड़ हो जाने का बोध कराता है। कई बार कहानी में 'stood rooted to the spot' जैसा वाक्य आता है। इसका शाब्दिक अर्थ नहीं है।
