마모된 타이어 표면에 새 고무를 덧씌우거나, 오래된 아이디어, 이야기, 작품 등을 다시 사용하거나 반복하는 것.

실제 타이어에 ‘재생(재생 타이어)’로 쓰이고, 비유적으로는 참신하지 않은 아이디어, 이야기 반복을 뜻함(‘retread of a plot’ 등).
