Colocar alguém ou algo em uma posição, cargo ou status inferior; muitas vezes usado quando algo é considerado menos importante ou desejado.

"Relegate to" é mais usado em contextos formais ou acadêmicos. Normalmente tem um sentido negativo, como ser rebaixado no trabalho ou receber uma função menos importante (ex.: "relegated to the background"). Não confunda com "delegate" (delegar).
