何かを見たとき、恐怖や嫌悪、驚きで思わず後ずさりすること。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

ややフォーマル・描写的な表現で、何かを見て強い嫌悪や恐怖で体が引いてしまう時に使います。軽い驚きには使いません。「recoil at the sight of...」のように使われます。
